As you travel round the Island you may believe the Islanders are most proud of the stone that built St Pauls Cathedral, the Dockyard that for centuries was the pride of the Royal Navy, or hosting the 2012 Olympic Sailing Events. Actually, its a bumper sticker that reads “Keep Portland Weird”.
Portlanders used to place Mummified Cats between walls to ward off evil spirits. If there was no cat to hand they would use a children’s shoe placed in the Chimney.
If you want to see the cat and other “weird” things then Portland Museum is 5 minute walk from the Estate.
