Portland Hogget are one of the oldest breeds of sheep in the UK. They are smaller than most commercial breeds and produce lean, fine-textured meat that has a delicate but deep flavour.
Because these sheep take 18 months to reach full maturity, they benefit from two full summers grazing, and hence why they are sold as hogget, rather than lamb.
The only flock on the Island is at Fancys Farm which is open to the public.
